Attendance

  • If your child is going to be late or absent from school please report the absence by calling the attendance line prior to 8:20 a.m., whenever possible. The OMS Attendance Line is available 24 hours a day.  If a child is absent and not called-in by the end of 2nd period (10:06 a.m.), the OMS Office will attempt to verify the absence by contacting a student’s parent/guardian and/or emergency contacts if a parent/guardian cannot be reached.

    ATTENDANCE LINE:  608-835-4000

    • Dial 1 to access main attendance line
    • Select school by dialing "5" for OMS
    • Select grade by dialing - “1” for 7th grade students OR “2” for 8th grade students
    • Leave message and then hang up

When calling the Attendance Line, state your child’s first and last name, date of absence, and reason for absence such as illness or doctor’s appointment.  Include your name and where you can be reached should we need to contact you

    APPOINTMENTS AND OTHER ABSENCES

Students who need to leave school to go to an appointment should bring a note from a parent/guardian to the office prior to the start of school on the day of the absence.  Although there are times when advance notice of an appointment is not possible, calling the office shortly before an appointment to request a child be released from class is not ideal.  However, in the case of an emergency or last-minute need to pick your student, please contact the OMS office at (608) 835-4891.

Students will be issued a "Permit to Leave the Building" pass.   Upon returning, students must check in at the office and will be issued a pass to return to class. If medical documentation is presented to the office, the absence may be coded as an excused absence due to medical reasons.

    END OF DAY STUDENT MESSAGES

If you need to reach your student during the school day, please contact the office with student messages NO LATER THAN 3:00 p.m.  We cannot guarantee messages received after 3:00 p.m. will reach your student by the end of day.

    PRE-ABSENCE FORMS

When a family knows in advance that a student will be absent for 2 or more consecutive days, the family should complete the Pre-Absence Form located below.  Parents need to fill out the top portion of the form.  Students must take the form to each teacher so that make-up work can be assigned.  Once completed, the form must be turned in to the OMS Main Office to document the absence.
